Sailors’ Children’s Society CEO and Chair of Trustees Attend Buckingham Palace Reception Hosted by HRH The Princess Royal

On Thursday 5 June, Sailors’ Children’s Society was honoured to attend a very special event at Buckingham Palace to mark the 75th birthday year of HRH The Princess Royal, our longstanding Patron.

Chief Executive Natasha Barley and Chair of Trustees Mark Thundercliffe were among more than 200 invited guests from 111 charities across the UK who gathered in the Palace’s ballroom for a reception hosted by The Princess Royal. Known for her tireless dedication to the charity sector, Princess Anne chose to celebrate her milestone year by bringing together many of the organisations she supports to hear about their work and understand how she can continue to help.

With over 400 patronages to her name, the Princess is one of the most active and committed members of the Royal Family. Her focus on championing the work of charities was evident throughout the afternoon, which included powerful presentations from charity leaders and a Q&A session exploring the challenges and opportunities faced by the sector.

Following the forum, guests were invited to an afternoon tea in the Picture Gallery where The Princess Royal met with charity leaders, including Natasha and Mark. The event was a unique opportunity to reflect on the vital role charities play in society, particularly during times of crisis and transformation.

Speaking after the event, Natasha Barley said:

“It was a true honour to attend the Charities Forum at Buckingham Palace and to represent the Sailors’ Children’s Society alongside our Chair of Trustees. Her Royal Highness has been a deeply valued Patron of our charity for many years, and her continued support means so much to our team and to the families we serve. The event highlighted not only the challenges facing the third sector, but the unwavering commitment of those working every day to support others.”

The Sailors’ Children’s Society, which has supported children from seafaring families for over 200 years, provides long-term practical and emotional support to families in crisis. The charity is proud to be one of the many causes championed by HRH The Princess Royal, whose deep understanding of and dedication to the maritime community has made a lasting impact.

We extend our warmest thanks to The Princess Royal for including us in this milestone celebration — and for her ongoing commitment to our mission.
